Teens are photographing themselves nude or seminude, and then sending the photos over cell phone text messaging.
It's called "sexting," and the typical scenario – but by no means the only one – involves a relationship gone bad. A teen girl takes a sexy photo of herself and sends it to her boyfriend in a cell phone text message. They eventually break up, and the photograph is sent to the boys' friends, who then send it on to their friends. The photo winds up spreading to students throughout the community. It might even wind up on the Internet.
"Sexting" is a Class C Felony
Sending or being in possession of minors engaged in sexually explicit behaviors is viewed by law enforcement as a class C felony child pornography. Even if the teen has no prior record of arrest or convictions, this violation carries with it a penalty of 30 days in juvenile detention.
